Ministry for Heritage Completes Installation of Interpretation Panels Across Gibraltar

The Ministry for Heritage has announced the completion of its latest interpretation panel programme with the installation of the final panels. Together with those installed over the past few years, the panels now form a comprehensive heritage trail across Gibraltar, making the Rock’s history more visible and accessible than ever before.
A centrepiece of the initiative is the Walk-Through History at the Southern Landport Tunnel, where eight panels chart 500 years of Gibraltar’s story — from its Castilian period through 1704 and into the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. This immersive route introduces residents, students, and visitors alike to Gibraltar’s layered past at one of its key gateways.
The latest panels also broaden the reach of the project, covering significant landmarks, neighbourhoods, and cultural traditions, and complementing the wide range of themes already installed in previous phases — from Catalan Bay, Rosia Bay, and Devil’s Tower to the Neutral Ground and the Royal Calpe Hunt.
Minister for Heritage, John Cortes, said:
“This project has been about making history part of our daily landscape. The panels inform, educate and inspire — whether for our young people learning about their identity or visitors discovering Gibraltar for the first time. We now have a Gibraltar-wide heritage trail that reflects the depth and diversity of Gibraltar’s story.”
