HM Customs Seize 14-Metre RHIB Following Chase at Sea

On Sunday 15th February at approximately 0900hrs a report was received by the HM Customs Marine Section regarding the presence of a suspect RHiB off the Eastern Side.
HMC Sentinel was deployed to the area and engaged in the pursuit of a 14-metre RHiB equipped with four 300HP engines. The vessel attempted to evade capture by executing high-speed manoeuvres that resulted in the passengers and crew being thrown from their seats and the engines stalling.
Customs Officers then boarded the vessel with the assistance of GDP officers who were also on scene and brought it alongside, where the four occupants were cautioned and arrested for the possession and importation of a prohibited import, obstructing a Customs Officer and dangerous navigation.
Two Customs Officers attended St Bernard’s Hospital for treatment of light injuries sustained during the chase. Fortunately, both were discharged the same day.
