Pet Dog Sea Rescue

On Saturday, 21 February, GDP Marine Officers responded to a report that a dog had fallen overboard from a local sailing yacht near the harbour entrance. Recognising the urgency, officers immediately deployed to the area. After speaking with the dog’s owner, they commenced a systematic search and coordinated closely with the RGP Marine Unit, who were also on scene.
The dog - fortunately wearing a life jacket - was quickly located and safely recovered from the cold water before being returned to its relieved owner.
A statement continued: “This operation demonstrates the hallmark qualities of GDP officers: professionalism, quick thinking, sound judgement, and effective teamwork with partner agencies. Their swift and coordinated actions ensured the safe return of the dog to its owner. In recognition of their attentiveness and exemplary conduct, the officers involved have been formally commended. The dog has since made a full recovery from its unexpected adventure.
