Patuka Press Call For Submissions for Next Issue on Death and Dying

Patuka Press is issuing a call for submissions for its next publication on the theme of ‘Death and Dying’.
A spokesperson for the group said: “After publishing five anthologies collecting local writing on jobs, borders, Llanito, the Upper Town and childhood, we now shift our focus to the theme of death and dying. The best way to overcome taboos is to write about them openly so we’re inviting local writers to submit poems, short stories, memoirs or essays about death or the process of dying. Writing and thinking about death doesn’t necessarily have to be gloomy or morbid; it can be uplifting and transformative too while prompting us to regard life from a philosophical perspective.”
The deadline for submissions is the 15th September, 2026; the pamphlet will be released before Christmas.
Submissions must be no longer than 4,000 words. They can be in English, Spanish or Llanito. Fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry submissions will be accepted but works must be previously unpublished.
Submissions must be in Times New Roman, with font size 12 points and double spaced. Please send as either pdf. or Word document to [email protected].
A spokesperson ended: “The aim of Patuka Press is to publish and promote Gibraltarian writing, to record literary responses to everyday Gibraltarian experience and to help preserve Llanito. Its publications aim to boost and develop Gibraltarian literature.”
Patuka Press is edited by Sophie Macdonald and Giordano Durante and is an independent, self-funded, non-profit organisation.
