Minister Orfila Announces Expansion And Refurbishment Of Sunrise Hostel

Minister for Housing, Pat Orfila, today revealed the ongoing plans for the expansion and refurbishment of Sunrise Hostel.

The Minister for Housing, the Hon Pat Orfila, today revealed the exciting ongoing plans for the expansion and refurbishment of Sunrise Hostel, designed to provide better accommodation for the residents currently residing at both hostels. This development will ensure that all residents are afforded high quality living spaces in the newly refurbished Sunrise Hostel.
The expansion will include a total of 107 beds across various room types:
• 49 single rooms
• 29 double rooms
Additionally,the hostel will feature four new, fully equipped kitchens and three new fully equipped laundry rooms, offering residents modern amenities and greater convenience.
A new lift will be installed as part of the renovation to improve accessibility for all residents.
The existing prayer room at the Sunrise Hostel has recently undergone extensive refurbishment as part of the ongoing works. The prayer room will provide a tranquil space for spiritual practice, enhancing the wellbeing of all hostel residents.
The project will be executed in two phases:
• Phase 1 will include 49 single rooms and 5 double rooms, with an expected completion date of April 2026.
• Phase 2 will complete the development with an additional 24 rooms and final improvements.
Upon completion of both phases, a full refurbishment of the existing Sunrise Hostel building will have been carried out. This will significantly improve the condition of the current structure, raising the overall standard of accommodation for all residents.
The Minister for Housing, the Hon Pat Orfila, commented: “This expansion and refurbishment of Sunrise Hostel are essential to ensure that residents, including those currently living at Queen’s Hostel, are provided with modern, comfortable, and well-equipped accommodation. The new facilities will improve their quality of life and contribute to their overall wellbeing.”
The refurbishment and expansion of Sunrise Hostel will provide much needed, high quality residential living for residents, ensuring that they are given the best living conditions in a newly updated environment.
