Unite Stands Down From Industrial Dispute With Gibraltar Port Authority

Unite the Union says that its dispute over a forced retirement is now settled.

A statement from Unite follows below:

Unite the Union, today (25th March) wishes to highlight that its dispute over what was deemed a forced retirement is now settled.

Unite the Union and its GPA Launch Crew membership had originally declared a dispute over the forced retirement of one of its members which was seen as a redundancy to achieve the aim of reducing headcount. Despite requesting a formal position to be provided by the GPA and HMGOG, no clarification was forthcoming and the dispute ensued.

Despite the delays and the anxieties felt by our member, Unite can declare that the dispute is resolved and our member is content with the outcome. Although it did not come without its disagreements, Unite are happy that the GPA and HMGOG gave our member the chance to continue their service.

Donovan Correia Unite Regional Officer stated “I am happy that we can now stand down and provide the outcome that our member sought. Although it was not a simple situation to navigate, we must acknowledge the efforts made by all involved to assist our member throughout.”

“On another note, I would like to show appreciation to the GPA and HMGOG for their consideration of the matter and ultimately as the decision makers, for their help in making this resolution possible. I am sure that we can continue to achieve similar positive outcomes moving forward.”
