Feb 11 - Community Agencies Carry Out ‘Safeguarding Adults at Risk’ Training

samantha sacramentoThe Care Agency hosted the first of two ‘Safeguarding Adults at Risk’ courses, on Friday afternoon at Bleak House.

The course was carried out by individuals of Gibraltar’s different agencies, including the RGP, GHA, Sports and Leisure Authority and the Citizen’s Advice Bureau. Procedures during the training included the Safeguarding Coordinator, Safeguarding Team Manager and Investigating Officer. Friday’s training was centred around these individuals from various agencies who take on important roles within the community.

The training provided to the Safeguarding Lead Managers, Investigating Officers and the Basic Awareness Training Programme will shortly be implemented and will ensure that relevant people are more knowledgeable of core issues which will empower them to identify, report and investigate allegations of different types of abuse in a more swift and efficient manner.

Social services Minister, Samantha Sacramento explained that the training courses were high on the Government’s agenda. She added, ‘I am delighted that training is once again being delivered only a few months after the last session in September 2012 that was aimed at training people to deliver a basic awareness training programme. The fact that key people from different Government departments and agencies are working together towards a common goal, reflects our determination to ensure that the most vulnerable in our community are protected from abuse’.

Ms. Sacramento presented those involved in the training with their certificates, at the end of the first course.
