The “Little Things, Big Difference” initiative has delivered a series of refurbishment and maintenance works across Gibraltar’s public spaces over the past two years, while also providing hands-on training opportunities for trainees from the Gibraltar Training Centre and CTCL in painting, construction, and general maintenance.

A statement from the Government follows below:

Minister for Equality, Employment, Culture and Tourism, with responsibility for Training, Apprenticeships and Skills, the Hon. Christian Santos GMD MP, has driven forward the “Little Things, Big Difference” initiative, delivering visible and meaningful improvements across the community. 

Launched in 2024, the project has developed into a strong and impactful programme that combines urban beautification with skills development, providing trainees from the Gibraltar Training Centre and CTCL with valuable, hands-on experience in painting, construction, and maintenance works across Gibraltar. 

Over the past two years, the initiative has delivered a wide range of refurbishment projects in key public areas, including: 

• Restoration and repainting of the Casemates entrance wall, one of Gibraltar’s most  photographed locations, particularly during the festive period 

• Refurbishment works at Europa Point, including the perimeter wall near the Mosque 

• Improvements to public features such as benches, railings, and lamp posts across multiple  sites 

• Upgrades in areas including Grand Battery House, Winston Churchill Avenue, Catalan Bay,  and Customs near the border 

• Works at Alameda Gardens, Europa Road (La Cuesta del Rock Hotel), and the port area • A continued weekly graffiti removal programme led by Technical Services 

While each intervention may be modest in scale, together they contribute to a significant uplift in the appearance and upkeep of Gibraltar’s public spaces, enhancing both community pride and the experience of visitors. 

Importantly, the initiative forms part of the Government’s wider strategy under Training, Apprenticeships and Skills, ensuring that participants can develop practical trade skills in real-world environments while contributing directly to their community.

“The ‘Little Things, Big Difference’ initiative shows how consistent, practical work can have a real impact on our community. These projects improve the look and feel of Gibraltar whilst also providing our trainees with the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience that will support their future careers.

It is particularly encouraging to see the pride that these young people take in their work, knowing that they are contributing positively to Gibraltar’s public spaces.
