May 23 - World MS Day on 29th May

trevWorld Multiple Sclerosis Day (WMSD) takes place on 29th May. It is an international day for action bringing together organizations in more than 80 countries to establish a global MS movement. It is the only global awareness raising campaign for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and is coordinated by the MS International Federation.

On World MS Day the Gibraltar Multiple Sclerosis Society is joining thousands of others around the world in campaigning to raise awareness of MS and aim to improve the lives of people with MS and those affected by it.

By taking part, the Gibraltar Multiple Sclerosis Society hope to do something positive to help raise more awareness of MS.

A spokesperson said: “We are joining a global movement of people who want to make a real difference to the lives of people with MS.”

The World MS Day campaign aims to raise awareness of three basic key messages about MS in order to improve public knowledge and awareness of the disease:

 1. There is no known cause or cure for MS.

2. MS symptoms usually start between the ages of 25 and 31 and last a lifetime

3. MS symptoms vary from person to person and from time to time, sometimes these can cause disabilities.

Their theme this year is "What's your Motto for your MS?"

Local patients have come up with these mottos: "I have MS, it does not and will never have me!","MS won't hold me back, I am going to live my dreams","Gotta get on with it!","Use it or lose it" and: "Life is a rollercoaster so enjoy the ride"
