Jan 02 - Queen Honours Gibraltarians for Services to their Community

newsThis year, Her Majesty the Queen’s New Years Honours were extended to a selection of hardworking members of Gibraltar’s community, including; former Financial Services Commission CEO, Marcus Killick, who is set to be appointed as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for services to the regulation of financial services in Gibraltar.

Dennis Figueras is to be appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his work with legislative, electoral and the parliamentary process in Gibraltar.

For services promoting chess in Gibraltar, Mario Garcia is to be awarded the British Empire Medal. RGP Superintendent Richard Mifsud, Police Constable Herbert Warwick and Sergeant Albert Buhagiar are to be awarded the Overseas Territory Medal for services to policing in Gibraltar. Also receiving an Overseas Territory Medal is Sergio Parody for services to Gibraltar’s Fire Service.

Governor Sir James Dutton has awarded the Gibraltar Award, in recognition of exceptional services in Gibraltar to Abraham Albert Benedy for services to the Jewish Community, Joseph Brugada for services to the hearing impaired and Antonio Celecia for services to sports. In the list of Military personnel to achieve honours, Gibraltar's Colour Sergeant Anselmo Ochello has been awarded the Queen's Volunteer Reserves Medal for services to the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. With over 40 years as a member of the Regiment's Corps of Drums, he is the first recipient of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment to receive the QVRM.
