May 28 - Governor Awards Army Cadet During Visit to Buffadero Training Camp

governor army cadetsHis Excellency the Governor, Sir James Dutton, last week visited Gibraltar’s Army Cadet Unit at the Buffadero Training Camp.

His Excellency was welcomed by Lt Col Ivor Lopez (CO RG) and Capt Alan Montegriffo before being given a tour of various cadet activities, including radio communications, expedition planning, weapon handling and ‘Fire Orders.’

The unit, which is funded and resourced by HM Government of Gibraltar, now has over 80 cadets.

During his visit, His Excellency appointed Cadet Sgt James Aguilera, aged 16, as this year’s ‘Governor’s Cadet.’ This is the second time that this title has been awarded.

James will now take part in both the Queen’s Birthday parade and the Governor’s Garden Party in his new role and wearing his new badge of office.

‘We very much appreciate His Excellency finding time in his busy schedule to visit the Cadets,’ Capt Montegriffo explained.
