Jul 18 - GibElec Carries Out Works to Eliminate Power Cuts
GibElec released an official statement this evening regarding works carried out on the new rental generators, in order to ‘eliminate the recent problems that we have been experiencing with power cuts due to the turbine tripping on load and the Spark Energy Installation tripping on overload’
On completion of the works, various tests were carried out including the simulated failure of a turbine (losing 4 Megawatts on load) and the system with new generator setting has coped with it, without causing power interruption.
A spokesperson for the Gibraltar Electricity Authority noted that although they cannot provide a 100% guarantee that there will be no power cuts, ‘the changes that have been introduced this morning should mean that the recent spate of blackouts due to one generator failure have been eliminated’.
