Sep 09 - Parliamentarians Sign for Self – Determination as Preparations for National Day Continue
Ahead of tomorrow’s National Day festivities, a collection of UK Parliamentarians today signed the SDGG’s ‘Self Determination for Gibraltar’ banner that has become a salient theme for National Day.
The parliamentarians visiting the Rock, many of which are long term friends of Gibraltar, include David Morris MP, Jack Lopresti MP, Baroness Butler-Sloss, Lord Chidgey, Andrew Rosindell MP, Rosie Cooper MP, Graham Brady MP, Stephen Hepburn MP, Edward Leigh MP, Sheryll Murray MP, Bob Neill MP, Bob Stewart MP, Dame Angela Watkinson DBE. The group, who will take the stage during tomorrow’s political rally, also includes MEPS Julie Reid and Claire Moody who’s jurisdiction covers Gibraltar. Catherine Bearder MEP will also be present.
Former MEP, Sir Graham Watson and Lady Watson will also join the group as Sir Graham is set to be awarded the ‘Freedom of the City’ for his dedicated effort towards Gibraltar, during his time in the European Parliament.
Ministers of the GSLP/ Liberal cabinet also gathered this morning, as preparations for the event continued down in Casemates, and signed the banner.
Tomorrow’s celebrations kick off as from 9:30am, with live music and performances in Casemates Square. The political rally will commence at 12:25pm, with the release of the balloons at approximately 1pm. Other events forming part of the National Day festivities include the children’s fancy dress competition in the Piazza at 10:30am, live music events at Casemates Square, Boyd’s in the Leisure Centre, the Monkey Rocks Festival at Victoria Stadium MUGA site, the Rock on the Rock club and Governor’s Parade.
As from 9:30pm the tradition Rock Concert in Casemates Square will commence, with the fireworks display set for 10:30pm.
