Nov 04 - New Christmas Stamps Reveal Artwork by St.Bernadette's Resource Centre Users
Officially launching Gibraltar’s Christmas 2014 stamps yesterday evening, at a reception in the Gibraltar International Airport, Social Services Minister Samantha Sacramento revealed that the stamp designs had been extracted from a large Christmas themed collage that the users of the St. Bernadette’s Resource Centre had completed this year.
Speaking on behalf of the Philatelic Bureau, Managing Director Glendon Martinez insisted that the stamp designs had been created with ‘true passion’, he went on to thank the Minister for approaching him with the idea and having a team work closely with the bureau throughout the development of the stamps.
For her part, the Minister noted that the collage acted as a platform to showcase what people with different abilities can achieve. The project also forms part of December 3rd’s International Day for people with Disabilities.
Minister Sacramento reiterated the Government’s commitment to accessibility ‘it’s not just about changing the physical quality of Gibraltar, it’s also about our policies and the services that we provide to people with learning disabilities.
She went on to thank the Centre and volunteers form the art and craft society who drove the project.
The reception was attended by the Chief Minister, His Excellency the Governor, His Worship the Mayor, users of the St Bernadette’s Resource Centre, and their family, as well as various other ministers and Deputy Mayor Kaiane Aldorino.
For his part, the Chief Minister commented that ‘in sending these stamps around the World we are going to send the best of Gibraltar around the World.’
The exhibition of stamps will remain at the Airport for the rest of the week. The stamps, and a selection of Christmas cards can be purchased from the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau Shop.
