Dec 21 – Backgammon Association To Host Qualifying Tournament Next Month
The Backgammon Association of Gibraltar has announced that on Tuesday 26th January 2016 and Wednesday 27th January 2016, at Latinos Casemates starting at 7pm each day, it will hold the Association’s Qualifying tournament for the Gibraltar International Backgammon Championship.
The Gibraltar International Backgammon Championship will be held at the Caleta Hotel from 11th to 14th February. Already over 100 professional backgammon players have enrolled and some 50 players at intermediate level. The Backgammon Association of Gibraltar says it wishes to encourage as many local players as possible to enroll for the Championship by accessing the event’s webpage: www.gibraltarbackgammon.com
The tournament is open to all members registered (membership fee £5 up to end March 2016) before the closing date of Wednesday 20th January 2016. The tournament fee will be £10 per player which will give access to the main tournament with first round losers able to enter a plate competition.
The main prize for the top four players in the main tournament will be free and automatic access to the International Backgammon Festival at intermediate level (valued at 100 euros per player). Cash prizes and trophies will also be available for the main tournament and plate winners, with actual sums to be determined depending on the number of entries.
Entry forms are available at Latinos Casemates and may be collected as from Monday 4th January 2016. Enquiries can be made in person there or via the Association’s Facebook page.
The Association also wishes to take this opportunity to remind backgammon players that the its weekly meetings and rating matches (Wednesdays as from 7.30pm at Latinos Casemates) will resume as from 13th January 2016.
