Dec 13 - Gibtelecom Announces Partnership With The GFA

The Gibtelecom Rock Cup will be the new name of the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA) Challenge Cup, following a partnership arrangement between the GFA and Gibtelecom.

For many years this tournament has been known as the Rock Cup, which is a knockout competition between all the Gibraltar Football Clubs and modelled on the UK’s FA Cup.

The four-year deal, which starts with the 2016/17 season, was announced by the General Secretary of the Gibraltar Football Association, Dennis Beiso, and Gibtelecom’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Bristow, at a press conference held at Gibtelecom’s headquarters in John Mackintosh Square this morning.

The deal will see all participating teams receive a sum of money depending on how far they progress in the competition with the winner netting the top prize of £5,000.

Gibtelecom will be the Rock Cup’s first title sponsor and Dennis Beiso welcomed the partnership “hoping it brings sporting and commercial success, and helps the Gibtelecom Rock Cup to grow from strength to strength. This is a positive step in the association’s continued growth and development and an excellent opportunity to collaborate with a brand that shares many of our core values. We are keen to progress commercial initiatives such as these going forward, putting fans at the heart of football.”

Tim Bristow added: “This sponsorship is the first step of what Gibtelecom hope is a long lasting partnership with the GFA, in which we can leverage the combination of Gibraltar football and Gibtelecom’s global communications reach. We are excited about joining the football community at a time when their success continues to grow, at home and abroad, and look forward to seeing the Gibtelecom Rock Cup winner in future UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) competitions. The local teams and their players’ commitment to success, and their culture of nurturing young talent, are values we share at Gibtelecom.”

The draw for the first round of the Gibtelecom Rock Cup takes place tomorrow and will be streamed like on the Gibtelecom and GFA social media sites, with fixtures starting in early January.
