gib cricket logoGibraltar Cricket have announced that Lizzie Ferrary will join the permanent staff of the organisation as a Development Coach next month.

Lizzie, who recently completed her UKCC Level One Certificate in Coaching Cricket, is a product of Gibraltar Cricket's development system having played cricket throughout middle school and then at Westside School. Lizzie has represented Gibraltar at age group level and has graduated to become an integral member of the National Women's Squad.

Throughout 2013, Lizzie has spent some time supporting Cricket Development Manager Mark Bacarese in sessions and will continue to work closely with him in the months to come.

Lizzie joining the organisation allows Gibraltar Cricket to work towards fulfilling the targets set in their 3 Year Plan, “Building the Base”, which focuses on increasing the number of junior participants and giving more children the opportunity to play the game.

Lizzie will also work towards helping the growth of young female cricketers and will act as the perfect role model for young girls in Gibraltar demonstrating what can be achieved playing the game. The role also gives Lizzie the opportunity to gain exposure to the business side of Gibraltar Cricket and she will support the board and professional staff on specific projects to help develop a more sustainable structure for the organisation.

Speaking about the move to bring Lizzie on board, General Manager Ross Brooks was clearly delighted.

"Having advertised for a development coach I am delighted that we can announce today that Lizzie is joining our organisation, cricket has formed a big part of Lizzie's life till now and I know that she will be a great ambassador for cricket in Gibraltar"

Brooks also highlighted some of the key areas that Lizzie will work on over the coming months "We have clear aims to grow cricket in Gib and give even more children exposure to the game. Bringing Lizzie on board means we are equipped to increase our excellent presence in Middle Schools and offer more taster sessions to First Schools with our goal to introduce cricket to more children and also support the school teachers in helping develop the skills to promote the sport further."

Lizzie will also be involved in helping build on the excellent start Gibraltar Cricket have made this summer with their U11 and U13 coaching sessions at Europa Oval. Gibraltar Cricket will roll out an even wider set of sessions during the summer and are keen to ensure that every child of any age or ability has the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game.

A spokesperson said: “I'm sure everyone involved in cricket in Gibraltar will join us in welcoming Lizzie in to her new role.”
