Oct 15 - Feetham Calls for Stadium Upgrade to Meet UEFA Category 3 Standards
Commenting on the project, Opposition Leader Daniel Feetham called for these works to be extended to ensure that the Stadium is upgraded to UEFA’s Category 3 standards. The party claims that this would allow the GFA to play its home internationals in Gibraltar and fans would not need to travel to Portugal to watch their team play.
The Opposition does not believe, however, that a Category 3 grade Victoria Stadium should see the GFA abandon their plans for a an entirely new stadium at Europa Point. Daniel Feetham went on to say, ‘we urge the Government to set aside political differences for the good of fans and the game and to bring football home to Gibraltar soonest by going that little bit further and upgrading the Victoria Stadium to a UEFA Category 3 as was originally planned. Playing our games in Gibraltar will be a huge boost to everyone and would also contribute to economic activity here.’
