The president of the Gibraltar Football Association, Desmond Reoch, has thanked loyal fans who have travelled to Faro and further afield to support the national football squad. This is the message, which has been posted on the GFA’s website:

I would like to publicly convey my thanks and appreciation to all those Gibraltar fans who have travelled to all our games played in Faro and to the away matches played in Estonia, Republic of Ireland and Germany. The support of these loyal fans have been tremendously appreciated by the team and the comportment of those fans who travelled to the away matches played in Estonia, Republic of Ireland and Germany has been a credit to Gibraltar.

The “magnificent six” fans who travelled to Estonia at great personal costs amazed the Estonians by their chants and show of loyalty. The five hundred or so fans who travelled to the Republic of Ireland were a joy to watch at the match and the Dublin Police wrote to the GFA commending our fans’ behaviour “on & off the pitch”. The one hundred odd who travelled to Germany were also were a joy to watch at the match and the German fans will remember them for their congas !

The GFA is grateful for this excellent support and we will be looking at ways in which to reward these loyal fans for our European Qualifiers in 2015

My thanks again to all these loyal fans, your support has been gratefully appreciated by the team and all of us in the GFA and you have made Gibraltar proud of you.
