May 29 - Gibtelecom Conference Puts Gibraltar on the Map

gibtelecom Gibtelecom today hosted their annual telecommunications conference, attended by a series of Telecommunications providers from small states, including Andorra, the Faroe Islands, Malta, Guyana, Isle of Man, Iceland, Luxembourg and Greenland. Over 60 attendees are made up of former incumbent telecommunications companies from states with a population of up to 2 million. Gibtelecom plays and administrative role for the group, including the managing of financials and sub-contracting the consultant who assists in organising the annual event.

 

The conference was opened by CEO of Gibtelecom Tim Bristow, who outlined the company’s brand adding that, ‘ the Teleforum facilitates members sharing approaches and technology that foster the development of their respective organisations in the fast changing communications space. The value derived from this forum is evident from the fact that 14 years since its inception, Teleforum events continue to feature on the calendars of those companies present.’

Speaking at the forum, which included workshops and small exhibitions, Chairman of Gibtelecom Dr Joseph Garcia spoke of Gibtelecom’s success, thanks to a substantial growth in the industry over the past few years, especially with the growth of e Gaming in Gibraltar. He added, ‘ business customers, and increasingly residential customers in a market dominated by smart phone sand tablets, we depend on high quality and reliable communications.

‘Gibtelecom has taken steps in recent years to establish itself as a data centre provider and global carrier, primarily through its investment in the Europe India gateways sub marine cable system.’            

The conference, which will run over two days, is sponsored by Ericsson Espana, TeleBilling and other major companies within the industry, including Gibraltar’s own KPMG.
