Ivan Cheparinov of Bulgaria was the surprise winner of the 2014 Tradewise Gibraltar Masters chess tournament after a rapid play tie-break was needed to determine the overall winner after three players tied for the £20,000 first prize.

Following the inclusion of Winston Churchill Avenue as a Blue Zone under the Tobacco Act a total of eight persons were arrested by the RGP on Thursday 6th February 2014 for failing to leave the Blue Zone, at Winston Churchill Avenue, when instructed to do so by a Police Officer. Seven of these persons were Spanish nationals and one was a Rumanian national. One individual was also arrested for Resisting Police.
