Here’s the full text of the address delivered this afternoon by Minister Gemma Arias-Vasquez at the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonisation:
The Government says that it is surprising that the GSD has waited until now to put forward ideas for the use of the old Central Police Station in Irish Town. Number Six says that it is now nearly a year ago that, in May 2015, the Government invited Expressions of Interest in respect of this building.
A family fun day organised by the Royal Gibraltar Police recruits has raised more then £5,000 for drug and alcohol rehabilitation charity Stay Clean, with more money to come.
The GSD says it notes the invitation by the Government for expressions of interest in the former Central Police Station Building at Irish Town. The party says the former Central Police Station “is an iconic and beautiful building” and the GSD believes that there is a real opportunity to retain it in public ownership for the purposes of housing all tribunals. The GSD believes that with “sensitive and careful development” of this historic property, it could be used as a central hub for all tribunals such as the Industrial Tribunal , Rent Review Tribunal and Social Security Tribunal to name but a few.
