Sep 22 - Cancer Relief Host Gibraltar's Biggest Coffee Morning

Cancer Relief Gibraltar is holding Gibraltar’s Biggest Coffee Morning once again this year. The event will be held at Boyd’s at Kings Bastion Leisure Centre from 10am to 2pm.

Every one is invited to share a cup of coffee or tea and cake for £4 a head with friends and family and raise funds in one of the charity’s major fund-raising events.

A spokesman for the charity said: “There are so many in the community who suffer from cancer. Our goal is to make sure that no one has to face cancer alone by offering care and support through the various services offered at the Cancer Relief Centre.”

The various ways in which the charity helps those facing cancer include:

·      Cancer Support Clinics which provide patients and families with information and support throughout treatment and beyond.

·      The five-week ‘Breathe Easy’ Programme (for those suffering from breathlessness).

·      Aromatherapy Massage service for patients and carers – this helps ease symptoms in patients and helps to relieve stress and tension in carers.

·      ‘Head Smart and Pampering’ service where patients suffering from hair loss and other visible effects of cancer treatment can have their wigs styled, receive advice on hair/scalp care and skincare and make-up. Men also benefit from soothing skin, hand and foot treatments.

·      Day and Respite therapy, where patients can spend an enjoyable day in a relaxing environment. Different creative and recreational activities are offered and lunch and transport are provided.

·      Financial Assistance Scheme for those suffering financial hardship as a result of their illness.

·      Talk therapy and counselling.

·      The loan of specialised nursing equipment for the use of patients at home.

·      Hospice at Home Nursing service which supports patients with advanced cancer and their families. Our aim is to enable patients who wish to remain at home during the last few days to receive nursing care in partnership with the GHA community services. Respite care is also offered for families.

·      Bereavement counselling

Since the new Centre opened, Cancer Relief Gibraltar has been able to support over 300 people (patients and loved ones).

The spokesman added: “None of this would be possible were it not for the generosity of so many people in the community!

“Please help us raise more funds so we can continue our valuable work. Pop in for a ‘cuppa’ or take your lunch break with us (sandwiches available). Toddlers are welcome too. They can have fun bouncing away in a bouncy castle and enjoy the other attractions on offer. Together let’s see how much we can raise.”
