Dec 09 - Tangier Cheshire Home – 30 Years Through Photographs

The Gibraltar Cheshire Home Group is hosting a photographic and memorabilia exhibition at the John Mackintosh Hall this week. The exhibition was opened yesterday evening by His Worship the Mayor Adolfo Canepa.

The exhibition is a celebration of the Group’s 30th anniversary and displays photographs of Gibraltarian volunteers and their visits to the Home over the years and information about Home’s founder, Mr Leonard Cheshire.

Jaime Felices, of the Cheshire Home Group, said: “The idea behind the exhibition is to create this sense of togetherness and of being part of a common cause among those who have visited the Home or done some work for us.”

The Mayor Adolfo Canepa said: “This exhibition is quite remarkable for the number of photographs which it contains and it is a testament to their work and support. The second aspect that struck me were the photos of Leonard Cheshire.”

Mr Canepa said that those who met Leonard Cheshire regarded him as a remarkable man who was close to being “a living saint.”

Maurice Valarino of the Amigos del Camino de Santiago also presented a cheque to Mr Felices following some fundraising work.
