Mar 03 - Almost £4,000 Raised During Cancer Relief's Pancake Day

Cancer Relief Gibraltar is delighted with the success of its third Pancake day held on Shrove Tuesday 9th February. To date, the donations made by a combination of 47 restaurants, businesses, community groups and families amounts to a fantastic total of £3836.35 with more money still coming in.

Those who joined in are listed on the ‘”Cancer Relief Gibraltar and the Cancer Relief Centre” Facebook Page (please ‘Share’ and ‘Like’) together with photos of many of the participants presenting their donations.

As part of the event, prizes were awarded to the most original and funny “pancake flippers” who participated by emailing their videos and photos to Cancer Relief’s fund-raising group. The winners were the 3rd Europa Beavers, Westside School Learning Support Facility, 1st Girl Guides, the Latin family and Time Out.

The money raised will help fund the services offered to people with cancer in Gibraltar and their families at the Cancer Relief Centre. These services, which are offered free of charge, include:

  •  Cancer Support Clinics which provide patients and families with information, advice and support throughout treatment and beyond.
  • Aromatherapy Massage Service for patients and carers – this helps ease symptoms in patients and helps to relieve stress and tension in carers.
  • ‘Head Smart and Pampering’ Service where patients suffering from hair loss and other visible effects of cancer treatment can have their wigs styled, receive advice on hair/scalp skin care and make-up. Men also benefit from soothing skin, hand and foot treatments.
  • GHA clinics run by a GP, dietician, physiotherapist and chiropodist.
  • Day and Respite therapy, where patients can spend an enjoyable day with others in a relaxing environment. Lunch and transport are provided as well as recreational activities.
  • Financial Assistance for those suffering financial hardship because of their illness.
  • ‘Just Talk Therapy’ and counselling.
  • The loan of nursing equipment for the use of patients at home.
  • Hospice at Home Nursing Service in partnership with the GHA community services who together support patients and their families at home. Our aim is to enable patients who wish to remain at home during the last few days to do so. Care can also be given to prevent admission to hospital and to provide respite for loved ones.
  • Bereavement counselling.
