May 16 - Miss Gibraltar Calpe House Appeal Boosted By £1,000 From McDonald’s

The Miss Gibraltar campaign in aid of the new Calpe House appeal got a welcome boost this weekend with a donation by McDonald's. The Gibraltar branch of the international chain presented a cheque for £1,000 to the contestants as a “contribution to their fantastic work in aid of this worthwhile charity”.

Franchisee David Osborne presented the cheque to the contestants.  He told them that McDonald’s in Gibraltar was keen to give back to the community.  He explained the Ronald McDonald trust runs some 300 charity homes across the world for families with hospitalised  children.  When they heard of the Calpe House campaign they wanted to contribute, given the strong relation they enjoy with the community here.

Mr Osborne said the McDonald’s program for charity always focused on helping families who have needed to travel to seek medical attention for their children.

The cheque presentation comes ahead of the launch on Tuesday of the ‘Our Home’ charity single as a music video.  The contestants are asking the community to donate £1 via a premium phone number if they feel their efforts have been worth the donation.  The number to ring is 8974 (calls cost £1, mobile surcharges apply, please seek bill payers’ permission).

A spokesman for Stage One said he was delighted with the awareness raised by the contestants.  Later this week they will launch a “Your Change for Calpe House” week at Morrisons supermarket.
