Sep 21 - National Celebrations Cheque Presentation

The Minister for Culture Steven Linares presented cheques to the value of £8,200 to charities that took part in the National Day events and Gibraltar Fair.

The money was collected during the Gibraltar Fair and National Celebrations, and today on behalf of the Self Determination for Gibraltar Group, the money was handed out to charities as well as prizes awarded to those who took part in the shop window and patio competitions.

Mr Linares said: “The Government is indebted to those charities, as indeed we are to those non-charitable organisations and volunteer groups, because it is thanks to their efforts and their support that Gibraltar is able to enjoy a varied programme of entertainment during our annual festivities.

“The staff at Gibraltar Cultural Services worked very hard to co-ordinate the many events that took place, but the charities, organisations and individuals who contributed to the outstanding success of this year’s Gibraltar Fair, National Celebrations, National Day and its ancillary events need to be thanked and acknowledged.”

Cheques were presented to: Action for Schools, Lions Club of Gibraltar, Psychological Support Group, St John Ambulance and Women’s Health Group.

The winner of this year’s patio competition was Ross House, Alameda Estate.

Top prize for the shop window competition went to Knew Marketing Ltd (Khubchands), with second prize being awarded to the Early Learning Centre and third prize going to Saverland.
