Sep 26 - Gibraltar Takes Part In “Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride”

Yesterday, suited and booted motorbike enthusiasts met in Ocean Village before taking part in a ride around the Rock on their classic bikes in aid of prostate cancer research and suicide prevention programmes as part of the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride.

The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride is a worldwide charity event (this year comprising 100 countries and 500 cities) that unites dapper gentlefolk with classic or custom motorcycles on the 25th September every year in the fight against prostate cancer and in support of suicide prevention programmes.

So far, $3,300,170 (and counting) has been raised of a global fundraising goal of $USD 5M.

This is the first year Gibraltar has participated, and yesterday's ride was a phenomenal success: Gibraltar now features on the fundraising leader board at 23rd place out of 100 countries and 500 cities!

Dale Moreno, co-organizer of the DGR Gibraltar, said: "As it was the first year, we expected it to go well but the result surpassed our expectations. 55 dapper motorbike riders attended with their classic and custom bikes and we were able to raise over $10,000 which will all go to prostate cancer research and suicide prevention programmes. Andy Watts, myself and Motorcycle Club Gibraltar would like to say a massive thank you to all who participated in the event, including our sponsors Bianca's Bar and Restaurant, wagamama, Xtreme Events, O'Reilly's Irish Pub and Ocean Village (especially Emilia Hazell-Smith) for all your efforts with the fund raising. It looks like this great event is going to become a yearly event and we look forward to organizing it again next year!”

Prizes for Most Dapper Rider and Best Bike were given by event presenter and fellow motorbike enthusiast, Patrick Francis of Bianca’s restaurant.

Don't forget you can still donate to this very worthy cause on the official Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride website.
