Oct 10 – Childline Launches Live Chat Service Due To Growing Demand

Childline Gibraltar has recently launched a further extension to their Helpline service, the Live Chat service, available daily between 5.00-9.00pm via their website.

Changes in the use of technology by young people and adults, mean the charity has to move with the times and adapt to the needs of its service users. Thus, building on the increased use of the internet - and particularly social media - among young people today, Childline has answered the call of a faster, easier way to connect with them.

A statement continued: “There is generally a great deal of personal and sensitive information involved in contacting Childline. In order to be ready for this, their Helpline Volunteers received additional training to cover any issues that they may encounter while on Live Chat. The basic structure for this service is the same as demonstrated on the Helpline and Online Services and follows Childline Gibraltar’s policies and procedures, including confidentiality and anonymity the latter if desired.”

To access the Live Chat service, simply go to Childline Gibraltar’s website (www.childline.gi) and click on the chat icon located on the right hand side of the page. Currently, the service is open from 5pm till 9pm only. When the chat line is not open you can continue to contact Childline via This email address is being protected from spambots. “We are immensely grateful to the NSPCC for their ongoing support and guidance, especially in helping us to establish this new service in Gibraltar. Our services are increasingly in demand here and the number of referrals we need to make has more than trebled in the last three years”, commented a charity spokesperson.

Now in its tenth year of helping to end cruelty to children in Gibraltar, Childline continues to provide support to young people and adults alike through their Helpline and Online services. While many would still prefer to contact the charity through these services, the charity is taking one step ahead with its progressive digital strategy. They are committed to generating conversations in any platform with good, meaningful and quality content interactions with the community.
