Mar 14 – Childline Blue Week

Childline Gibraltar will be holding “Blue Week” from the 20th to the 24th of March 2017 to raise awareness and fundraise for the charity.

There will be key activities organised over the four days including an Awareness Day on Wednesday, the 22nd and “Blue Day” on Friday, the 24th wherein we will be asking local school children and companies to wear blue and donate £1 to Childline. In addition, Childline will also hold a “Blue Week Quiz” on Thursday, the 23rd.

This year Childline is also introducing the #8008challenge by asking the community to help raise awareness about the freephone helpline number “8008” and completing the challenge. They can do this by showing those numbers in a creative/imaginative/financial way and then sharing it on social media with the hashtag #8008challenge.

As part of this important annual event, a team from Childline will be available upon request to come and visit your company to tell you more about the work they do and how you can be involved.

Now in its 10th year of operation, Childline provides much needed services to the children and young people of Gibraltar. These include:

  • A free telephone Helpline Service open every day of the year between the hours of 5-9pm. If you are worried about a child please call our Freephone 8008 to speak confidentially to one of our highly trained volunteers.
  • An Online Service available through our website where you can submit an appropriate form. All online queries will be answered within 48 hours.
  • A service for Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse where the main aim is to enable and empower adult victims of childhood abuse to access the support they need in order to make their own personal journey of recovery and heal their emotional wounds.
  • An Appropriate Adult Service which is available 24 hours a day (our volunteers work closely with the RGP providing support and assistance to juveniles who have been detained by the police and who do not have an adult who can attend on their behalf).
  • An Educational and Awareness Program where our volunteers and managers work closely with schools and other youth and community groups promoting better understanding about self-care and personal needs.
  • A Corporate Social Responsibility program where we tap into various corporates’ sense of responsibility and see what they can contribute and help us with towards our mission.

Childline’s services are completely funded through private and corporate donations and its mission is simple: to end cruelty to children in Gibraltar. Please help them as we all have a responsibility to protect our children.
