May 07 - Med Steps Olive Tree For Cancer Relief
Minister Paul Balban was joined by representatives from the Department of the Environment and Upper Rock management team, Image Graphics, HM Prison and the Cancer Relief centre for the planting of a European olive tree at the base of the Med Steps on Saturday.
This tree is called Persephone (Greek goddess of Rebirth, Spring and Hope) as it sits close to the Pillars of Hercules.
The tree marks a place where people can appreciate those who have fought or are fighting cancer.
On the day of the Med Steps Challenge (Saturday 19th May), tailored stones carrying messages of love and support will be placed at the base of the tree and the public will take part in the challenge in recognition of those they love.
