May 06 - All Set For This Year’s Med Steps Challenge And Fun Day

On Saturday 18th May the annual Med Steps 5 Challenge will take place. The charity event challenges people to climb up the Med Steps five times.

This year’s theme is the ‘Rope of Hope’. As part of this theme, people can write, on a ribbon, the name of a person who is fighting or has fought cancer and tie it onto a rope which will then be placed around the tree at the base of the steps.

On Sunday 19th May, there will also be a Med Steps Family Fun Day for kids.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: “We have created a passport that the kids can take up the steps, they have to go to designated points and they have to find a clue to get a stamp from an air cadet.

“One of the stations is ‘Know your body’ and is all about how to keep healthy. Medals will be given for all completed passports.

“We have also created a fete with Splat the Rat, (hit a rubber rat when he falls out of a drainpipe and win a prize), pick the nose (giant head that you put your arm up the nose into slime to get a prize) Lollipop Tree, Tombola, Face Painting, Disc Drop.

“We will have dressed up superheroes walking around.”

A free bus service will run from 10am from Casemates to and from Jews’ Gate. The last returning bus from Jews’ Gate is 2.30.

All proceeds are in aid of Cancer Relief.
