Feb 10 - RAF Corporal Volunteers at Cancer Relief Centre

cancer relief HQBF Corporal Chris Royale recently became a volunteer for the Gibraltar Cancer Relief Centre, where he will carry out gardening and general maintenance tasks. He arrived in Gibraltar last November, looking for a charity he felt passionate about.

Having had family members who have had cancer, he felt that the Centre, which provides support for those affected by cancer, was a fantastic facility and he wanted to help in any way he could.

All services at the centre are completely free and along with counselling, support and information the centre offers complimentary therapy in the form of aromatherapy massage. There is modern Head Smart and pampering room in the Centre with over 50 wigs in stock. Grainne McKenna, the Cancer Relief Centre Nurse Manager said: “We are very fortunate to have a number of realistic wigs by British manufacturer Browns and incredibly lucky to have volunteer hairdresser Liz Smith who is a specially trained in synthetic hair. Liz can fit, manage, maintain and style the hair to suit the individual. This can be especially important for clients about to undergo chemotherapy so that they have a replacement to hand as soon as they start to lose their hair.”

The counselling and holistic services they provide are also available to the people caring for those with cancer.
