Jul 13 – Indian Summer Night

It was a full house when former Miss Gibraltar Shyanne Azzopardi and her 2nd Princess Claire Nunez strutted on the catwalk in elegant saris to funky Bollywood tunes.

The sold-out Indian Summer Night event was held in Grand Battery House on Saturday night in aid of the Aneesha Charitable Trust, which helps to raise money for children with medical illnesses or disabilities in need financial support, and has pledged support for Autism Support Gibraltar.

Minister for Culture Steven Linares, as well as the newly-crowned Miss Gibraltar Hannah Bado and current 2nd Princess Natalia Nunez, who looked radiant in Indian outfits, were invited the event which featured an Indian fashion show and dances by Bollywood dance troupe Mast Kalandar. There was also a buffet dinner serving all-time Indian culinary favourites and a disco after the show.

Mr Linares said: “I am really proud to be here supporting a great cause. It’s satisfying to see the Indian culture tonight, which shows the diversity in Gibraltar. The Indian community is part of our culture, and ultimately we are all Gibraltarians.”

Miss Bado said she was proud to be able to live in and represent such a diverse Gibraltar.

Ramesh and Asha Kripalani, founders of the Aneesha Charitable Trust, said: “We are delighted to see the support we have received not just from the Indian community in Gibraltar, but Gibraltarians alike.

“It was a brilliant show and we are already being asked for a second show soon.”

The committee for Aneesha Charitable Trust, which formed in 2014, would like to thank all the sponsors, volunteers, performers and attendees for their ongoing support.
