Aug 13 – Former Miss Gibraltar Will Shave Her Hair Off In The Name Of Charity

Former Miss Gibraltar Shyanne Azzopardi has bravely decided to sacrifice her lustrous lock if she reaches her target of £10,000 for Cancer Relief.

Although her friends and family have tried to talk her out of it, Shyanne will be shaving all her hair off at a fun day held at Casemates Square on Saturday 22nd August.

Speaking to Your Gibraltar TV, Shyanne says she took the decision to shave all her hair off after her uncle was diagnosed with cancer.

Having already raised more than £5,000, she said: “Originally, I thought of cutting my hair into a bob and raising money on a smaller scale and donating my hair to the Princess Trust.

“After my uncle was diagnosed with cancer, my dad came up with the idea to shave all my hair off.

“I thought about the way we complain about the way we look, about whether we’re too fat or too thin, too tall or too short, but ultimately what’s most important is the way we feel and that we are healthy.

“At the end of the day, it’s just hair it will grow back. The people for whom I am raising go through so much more. And if I go the extra mile, people will give to the cause.”

A spokesperson for Cancer Relief said: “As a charity, Cancer Relief is so grateful that Shyanne has decided to dedicate so much of her time and efforts into raising funds and awareness for our work.

“Her willingness to shave off her hair is very brave and a testament to what she is willing to do to help support those fighting cancer and prove what we should all already know – that beauty and confidence are much, much more than hair and that together we can make a difference to people’s lives.”

Shyanne adds: “During my time as Miss Gibraltar, I raised £5,500 in less than a year for the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Society, but this time I’ve managed to achieve this amount in a month’s time.

“This won’t be the last of Shyanne Azzopardi, I’m going to run as many events and help as much as possible.”

The fundraiser will run from 9am to 2.30pm on Saturday 22nd August in Casemates Square. Former 2nd Princess Claire Nuñez will be counting the money on the day, to make sure Shyanne reaches her target.
