May 24 - HM Customs Seize 25 Cartons Of Cigarettes

At approximately 6pm yesterday evening, officers of HM Customs Marine Section spotted a small motor vessel in the area of Emerson’s Place. Two male individuals were on board and appeared to make contact with other individuals on land.

Upon suspicion of illicit tobacco activity, Customs vessel HMC Searcher gave chase to the vessel, but was unable to approach it until it came to a halt on the Northern face of the runway, in the area known as 430 Mole.

The two men set off on foot along the runway, leaving behind the motor vessel and two bags. The Gibraltar Defence Police immediately deployed armed response vehicles to the incident, arresting one individual. Customs vehicles also attended the scene. The motor vessel was recovered by HM Customs and towed back to Customs Marine Base by HMC Searcher.

HM Customs have confirmed that GDP officers apprehended and arrested one of the men whilst the other managed to make good his escape. Officers also seized the two bags which contained 25 cartons of cigarettes.
