  • Government Disappointed at EU Parliament Delisting Vote

The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).

Jun 21 – Ministry Of Sound Pumps Up Gibraltar Music Week

The Ministry of Sound, without question one of the world’s most iconic nightclubs and record labels, as well as the biggest online dance radio station, is coming to Gibraltar later this year.

A statement from Gibraltar Music Week organisers Neon Angel continued:

“The club was the idea of Justin Berkmann and hugely inspired by New York’s Paradise Garage. Berkmann along with co-founder James Palumbo opened Ministry of Sound in Southwark, London in 1991.

“The club and the record label have been at the forefront of electronic music for the last 26 years, championing all sorts of dance music.

“The record label boasts a jaw-dropping roster of recording artists – London Grammar, Duke Dumont, Example, Wretch 32, Axwell and Yasmin to name a few – the label overall reaching 40 UK Number One albums and 21 UK Number One singles.

“This Gibraltar Music Week event includes four top DJs. Many of the celebrities flying into Gibraltar for the MTV backed Gibraltar Calling Music Festival will be attending.

MARTIN 2 SMOOVE

“Ministry’s resident DJ Martin 2 Smoove will be gracing the decks – “London’s hottest DJ,” says Rihanna.

“Without question Martin 2 Smoove’s passion for music, mastery of sound and boundless energy has helped him rise to become one of the best of the best.

“Martin is Ministry of Sound’s resident DJ every Tuesday and is also a regular fixture at the Notting Hill Art Club’s Hip Hop Event.

“If you are ever in London and you’re not a nightclub type of person, you can find him behind the decks at Nike Town every Saturday from 12pm to 6pm.

“Joining Martin on the night will be three of Gibraltar’s best DJs: BassCake, Kristian Vinales and Lethalness.”

BASSCAKE

“Cheryl Jeffries, aka BassCake, winner of the "Best Bass Music DJ" at the 2016 International Breaks Awards, is a drum and bass DJ. One of Gibraltar’s top DJs, she has been passionate about music since a very young age. No newcomer to the scene locally, she started playing Breaks then discovered the sounds of drum and bass. Ten years later.... she started all over again!

“Always ensuring her playlists are on point, her sets can be recognised by clean mixes and her drum and bass very deep, rolling, techy and dusty! BassCake gets the crowd going, influenced by the sounds of artists such as DLR, Alix Perez, Kyrist, Gerra & Stone, Disprove, Fre4knc, Tephra & Arkoze, Signal, Cern, Subtle Element, Skeptical, Arkaik and Klax. She has played at venues in various countries such as Spain, United Kingdom, France, Croatia and the Czech Republic!”

KRISTIAN VIÑALES

“Kristian has been one of Gibraltar's top international DJs for a long time and is a welcome addition to this event. He has been interviewed in International DJ Magazine and in DJ Mag (as Dejavoo). He is the only Gibraltarian to have performed at Brixton Academy, The Millennium Dome (O2) and Alexandra Palace as part of massive indoor raves held in these world-famous London venues.

“He has also played in 28 different countries in festivals and clubs alongside DJs and bands such as Groove Armada, Underworld, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, Laurent Garnier, Booka Shade, just to name a few.”

LETHALNESS

“Alex Iglesias, aka Lethalness, produces breakbeat, dubstep and drum and bass. Combining considered production skills with diverse beats, Lethalness's first release "Break The Space" (Badbwoy Bass USA) dominated the charts on sites such as Beatport claiming Number 20, which was a great success as it was his first ever release!

“Aside from the immediate success on Beatport, Lethalness reached Number 3 on other sites as Trackitdown. He also reached Number 12 with "Sensimina” which featured Don Spider, one of Gibraltar’s hottest vocalists. They have released tracks on Ape Music (UK), On A Break Records (SA), Definition Breaks (UK), Raveart Records (SP) and Dub Selection (USA). More recently in 2016, Lethalness won a

competition to represent Gibraltar and perform at the Yin Yang Festival inside the Great Wall of China.

“It all goes down at DUSK on Friday 1st September 2017 - Tickets are priced at £10 and are available now for purchase online at www.gibraltarmusicweek.com

“Lose yourself in the music from 10.00pm when doors open at Dusk Nightclub, The Promenade, Ocean Village, Gibraltar.

“Tickets are limited by capacity and you must be 18-years old or over to attend. Bring a valid photo ID for proof of age and a valid ticket to enter.

“Gibraltar Music Week runs 29 Aug - 03 Sept 2017 – be sure to check out all the great events during the week!”
