  • Government Disappointed at EU Parliament Delisting Vote

The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).

Jul 05 - RGP Will Strictly Enforce Sea Shore Rules

The RGP has said that it will be strictly enforcing the Sea Shore Rules and other marine legislation. The announcement comes after the arrival of the summer season and the increased marine activity around our shores - and particularly at our beaches - and is in line with the advice published by the Gibraltar Port Authority.

A statement continued: “This is being done with a view of ensuring that vessels, particularly speedboats and personal watercraft – Jetskis – are operated safely and within the law. Particular emphasis will be placed on the navigation of speedboats and personal watercraft by persons under the age of 18. These are machines capable of very high speeds and the latter in the right hands are extremely manoeuvrable; these same qualities render them extremely dangerous if used improperly.

“In addition to reporting the navigators for any offences they commit, when the vessel or craft is being operated by someone under the permitted age the vessel will be seized. The vessel will be returned to the owner, who may also be reported for process if they too have committed any offences, on production of the appropriate documentation. The Gibraltar Port Authority will also be informed who may then consider the temporary suspension or revocation of the vessel’s ‘Red book’.

“So far this summer three juveniles have been reported for underage navigation as well as other sea shore offences and two Red Books have been suspended by the Gibraltar Port Authority.”
