Jul 10 - Man Jailed For Attempting To Pervert The Course Of Justice

A 21-year-old man was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Dailan Mor tried to dissuade a complainant (his former girlfriend) from talking to the police about a separate incident that had taken place in February this year.

Prosecutor Karl Tonna said Mor, who is on police bail for another matter, kept in contact with the complainant via fake Facebook accounts.

Mor’s PlayStation was seized and officers discovered the Facebook profile used to contact his former girlfriend.

Mor’s defence barrister Suresh Mahtani said his client had already served nine weeks in custody since the incident took place.

The Chief Justice Anthony Dudley said this act had three main factors to take into consideration: the seriousness, the degree of culpability and the effect of the attempt on the course on justice.

He sentenced the defendant to 10 weeks in prison and said consideration would be given to time served.

The Chief Justice told the defendant to be cautious as he is still on police bail, adding: “I’ve told you to engage brain, otherwise we are going to be back here again.”
