The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).

Nov 10 - Woman Jailed For Burglary

A local woman was jailed for eight weeks after being found guilty of burglary at the Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard how April Recagno, 27, was with a friend, Stephanie Brabin, when she kicked the door down at a property in Kingfisher House.

The pair then went to get Brabin’s husband - Jose Marquez Hurtardo - from the couple’s house nearby, before returning to the premises.

No property was taken as the occupier arrived home and interrupted them.

While mitigating for his client, Recagno’s lawyer Leigh Debono said this was her first offence and no items were taken, adding that she hadn’t know anyone was living in the house.

However, Stipendiary Magistrate Charles Pitto said he could not accept that as mitigation as there were items of clothing and other items at the entrance to the apartment that indicated someone was living there.

Recagno was not willing to complete unpaid work and was instead handed the eight week prison sentence.

Her co-defendant Hurtardo was also found guilty after trial and had received eight weeks in prison at an earlier date, with Brabin being handed a 140 hours community service order.
