  • Government Disappointed at EU Parliament Delisting Vote

The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).

Jan 16 - Gibraltar Police Authority Public Consultation

Members of the Gibraltar Police Authority and staff will be at the Piazza tomorrow as from 10am to hold face-to-face interviews with the public as well as distributing the public consultation survey to gauge the public’s satisfaction with the Royal Gibraltar Police.

The Gibraltar Police Authority, which is established under the Police Act 2006, is an independent body made up of 10 persons.  It is, among other things, entrusted with ensuring the high standards of integrity, probity and independence of policing in Gibraltar and it is also tasked with holding the Commissioner of Police to account on behalf of the community. Every year, the Authority draws up and publishes an Annual Policing Plan for Gibraltar, setting out the targets and priorities.  In order to do so the Authority has for some years now instigated a public consultation.

This year the authority has tasked an independent company, JVictor Marketing, to undertake the consultation on its behalf.  Surveys are available online:  www.gpa.gi (the GPA’s own webpage) and on Facebook. Copies are also available from our offices at Unit 25B, Casemates Square.

This year those who complete the survey can opt to be entered into a prize draw.  The prizes will include an iPad as well as vouchers which can be used in a number of restaurants in Gibraltar.  This will be arranged by the independent company we have contracted and will in no way affect the anonymous nature of the replies.

The Authority says it appreciates and values the participation of the public in this important public consultation, which is a great help in enabling it to formulate its thinking.  The members of the Authority would like to encourage as many people as possible to dedicate a few minutes to fill in the questionnaire.   All the results and comments received from the survey will be carefully looked at and analysed and will play an important role in enabling the preparation of the Annual Policing Plan for 2018 - 2019.
