Jan 06 - RGP Arrest Four Men At Sea, Including One Local

The Royal Gibraltar Police arrested and charged four men yesterday afternoon, including one Gibraltarian and three Spanish nationals, following a high-speed chase at sea yesterday afternoon.

The charges were as follows - importing a prohibited import, operating a fast launch, and obstructing police.

The RGP and HM Customs Marine Crews responded to reports of two suspect vessels travelling at speed towards the Bay of Gibraltar from the eastern side of Gibraltar waters, at around midday.

After one of the suspect RHIBs was able to evade capture by continuing into Spanish waters, the RGP interceptor Sir John Chapple joined HM Customs Seeker in pursuing the second suspect RHIB, resulting in its interception moments later.

The vessel in question, a 12mt RHIB fitted with 3 x 300hp outboard engines and radar, was boarded and the four male occupants, namely:

         · 30yr old Spanish national Jesus Karim SANCHEZ CARRILLO, a resident of La Linea de La Concepcion, Cadiz, Spain

         · 23yr old Spanish national Pedro DAVID MELENDEZ CARAVACA, a resident of La Linea de la Concepcion, Cadiz, Spain

         · 26yr old Dylan COLLADO of Lynches Lane, Gibraltar

         · 28yr old Spanish national Mohad ABDESLAM ABDESLAM, a
resident of Ceuta, Spain.

The vessel was not carrying any illicit cargo but provisions and telecommunications equipment associated with drugs trafficking were found onboard.

Once processed and interviewed at New Mole House, all four individuals were later charged jointly for Importation of a Prohibited Import. The vessel’s navigator Mohad ABDESLAM ABDESLAM was additionally charged with one count of Operating a Fast Launch and one count of Obstructing Police.

All four remain in Police Custody at New Mole House pending their appearance before the Magistrates’ Court this morning.
