Jan 12 - Seven More Arrests In Counterfeit Note Investigation

An ongoing RGP Economic Crime Unit investigation has resulted in an additional seven persons being arrested throughout the course of yesterday and today for the offences of “Possession of a counterfeit note“ and “Passing a Counterfeit note”:

- Two Spanish males resident in Gibraltar (aged 27 & 30)

- Two local females (aged 25 & 33) 


- Two local males (aged 35 & 42) 


- A 27 year old British national resident in Gibraltar


A total of 29 x counterfeit £50.00 Bank of England sterling notes (£1,450.00) were also seized during one of several searches conducted at various local addresses. 


The RGP once again reminds the general public of the following characteristics in relation to all notes seized so far: 


  • · Bearing the Serial No: AH66 449134 

  • · Bank of England £50.00 sterling notes 

  • · Paper is not textured / print quality is significantly poorer than genuine 
notes 

  • · Metallic strip is noticeably faint
