Mar 23 - 500Kg Of Cannabis Found Floating Off Detached Mole
A total of 500kg of Cannabis Resin have been seized following the recovery of a collar from a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat found floating in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters about a mile west off the Detached Mole.
The drugs had been stored within the collar in small slabs and pellets. The collar is believed to match that of a Valiant V450 type RHIB, and is thought to have been removed from the hull and transom, for the purpose of smuggling the drugs.
No other part of the vessel has been recovered and the RGP says it is likely that the collar was being towed by another vessel which, for reasons as yet unknown, released its cargo.
Inquiries are ongoing in order to trace the ownership of the vessel; at present it is not believed to have any local connection.
The semi-submerged collar was reported, as a danger to navigation, to the Gibraltar Port Authority shortly after 1700hrs yesterday.
Following recovery of the collar and discovery of the drugs by officers of the Port Authority, the RGP was contacted and the drugs taken into police custody.
