Apr 25 - Men Fined For RHIB Importation

Three Spanish men were fined a total of £6,500 after pleading guilty to importing a RHIB into Gibraltar.

Miguel Rondon Leon, Juan Carlos Fernandez Garcia and Daniel Alconchel Ramirez appeared before the Lay Magistrates today after being arrested by police officers in the Catalan Bay area last night.

They beached at Catalan Bay following a chase at sea by Guardia Civil officers and were taken to New Mole House Police Station following their arrest.

They were initially charged with one count of importing a prohibited RHIB, measuring six meters in length and being a non-Gibraltarian in Gibraltar without permission but this charge was dropped.

The men entered a guilty plea, and their lawyer Francis Borastero-Porter said they had shown genuine remorse.

Alconchel Ramirez was ordered to pay a fine of £2,500, while Rondon Leon and Fernandez Garcia were fined £2,000 each. They have until the end of the year to pay their fines and the Lay Magistrates ordered that the RHIB and motor be forfeited.

Carl Ramagge appeared for the Crown.
