May 09 - Supreme Court Rape Trial Continues: Second Complainant Gives Evidence

The second complainant gave evidence in a Supreme Court trial where a local man faces several allegations of sexual offences against two women.

Darryl Martinez, 28, of Glacis Estate, maintains his innocence in relation to seven charges, including sexual assault, attempted rape and rape of a minor.

The alleged victim (whom we will refer to as ‘B’), was 14 at the time, and claimed the defendant attempted to rape her in his grandparents’ house after allegedly tying her hands with a rope.

B informed social services of the incident after a few months had passed in 2010, and it was only when the first complainant (‘A’) reported her incident 2012, that she found out about it from her social worker.

Appearing for his client, Keith Azopardi QC accused the witness of working together with complainant A to frame his client, but she denied this and said she was telling the truth.

Justin Rodriguez and Mr Azopardi appear for the defendant, while Ricky Rhoda QC and Kerrin Drago appear for the Crown. The trial is expected to conclude this week.
