May 19 – Brothers Cleared In Bar Brawl Trial

A 20-year-old man who was on trial this week with his brother for a number of charges of assault and causing an affray at the Quarterdeck Tavern has been found not guilty by a jury at the Supreme Court today.

The jury took four and a half hours to reach a unanimous verdict and found Jesse Sanchez not guilty for one count of causing an affray, one count of assault occasioning in actual bodily harm, one count of grievous bodily harm with intent, one count of grievous bodily harm and four counts of assaulting a police officer.

His brother Damian, 24, was also found not guilty of causing an affray.

The brothers were, however, found guilty of one count each of resisting police.

Presiding over the case, Puisne Judge Karen Ramagge Prescott said the defendants are to remain on bail until their sentencing on Monday 27th June, and she said she'd be keeping all sentencing options open.

Chris Miles appeared for the defendants and Robert Fischel QC appeared for the Crown.
