Aug 22 – La Linea Swimmer Rescued At Sea By RGP
A Royal Gibraltar Police marine crew onboard interceptor Sir John Chapple responded to a request for assistance from the Guardia Civil and La Linea’s Policia Local on Friday afternoon. The request related to concerns regarding the whereabouts of a swimmer who had been using a surfboard off Santa Barbara beach on La Linea’s eastern coastline in strong westerly winds.
Approximately 15 minutes later, and whilst Guardia Civil and Salvamento Maritimo vessels were still en route to the area in order to commence a search and rescue operation, the RGP crew located the swimmer, approximately one nautical mile off the eastern end of the runway.
The swimmer, who was found in good health, was confirmed to be the individual in question, following which the RGP vessel approached La Linea’s eastern coastline close to the frontier fence, where the swimmer was able to access the shoreline to be met by Spanish emergency services.
