Oct 05 - Man Sentenced For Possession Of And Possession With Intent To Supply Amphetamines

A local man was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty to the possession of and possession with intent to supply amphetamines.

Warren Rae, of Glacis Estate, appeared at the Supreme Court for sentencing this morning.

Rae changed to a guilty plea at the start of his trial in August. He faced one count of possession of 12.22 grams of amphetamines in a mixture weighing 98.14 grams and one count of possession of amphetamines weighing 1.47 grams and two further counts of possession with intent to supply the Class B drugs.

His lawyer Patrick Canessa explained that once his client had entered a guilty plea, he had lost his job.

While sentencing today, Puisne Judge Karen Prescott Ramagge said she would be sentencing on the basis that Rae had bought the drugs for his ex-wife and that he had told officers the drugs were his because he was trying to protect the improved relationship he was enjoying with his ex-wife while gaining access to see his children and grand-children.

Mrs Justice Prescott Ramagge said Rae’s risk of re-offending was low, adding that he'd played a lesser role in the drug supply and his limited function was under pressure.

Rae was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work under a community services order.

Kerrin Drago appeared for the Crown.
