Oct 07 - Cannabis Seized And Three Arrested Following Swift HM Customs Response

At approximately 7pm on the 3rd October, HM Customs were alerted by Officers of the GDP of an unidentified person entering Gibraltar illegally via the Western Beach frontier fence.

Officers immediately made their way to the location where they observed a Mercedes Benz motor vehicle exiting the area. Having noticed the presence of the Officers, a person left the rear of the vehicle and threw a bag that he was carrying, whilst running in a southerly direction across the airstrip.

Officers stopped the vehicle and detained the driver as well as a female passenger, whilst other officers chased and detained the running man, recovering the bag that he had thrown.

All three persons were conveyed to HM Customs at Four Corners where the bag was searched and found to contain 12 slabs of cannabis resin, weighing approximately 600grams.

The three persons - two Gibraltarians and a Spanish female - have been arrested and released on Police bail until the 4th January 2017.

The drugs have a street value of £3,000.
